Boy Scout Troop 352 was founded in West Pittston, PA in 1924.
Since that time, the troop has been actively serving the community and its' sons. We have had many leaders throughout
the years, however, most come directly from the Troop as former scouts. The majority have been Eagle Scouts and many
have served for ten or more years.
Until the mid 1980's, the troop had its own, private campsite
for use in the mountains of West Wyoming, PA. Many former scouts frequently recollect the good times had by all at this
site. We have always had a strong tradition of instilling outdoor skills and experiences in our scouts. We see
camping as a place where scouts realize and utilize the skills they have learned in meetings. It is a time where boys
become young men and start to become self-sufficient. As such, we camp on an almost monthly basis, wether at Camp Lackawana,
Lavigne, Goose Pond, or Acahela.
Our belief is that leadership does not rest in the hands
of the adult leaders, but instead, in the members of the Senior Patrol. Adults are only present to ensure the safety
of the scouts and provide guidance to the youth leaders. This method of patrol style leadership helps to build a solid
foundation for future adult leadership, not only in scouting, but in life as well. It also gives the young scouts a
source of motivation and something to work toward.
Our troop is approaching our 100th Eagle Scout, a testament
to our dedication and active program. In commemeration, we will be presenting a hand-carved plaque to the First United
Methodist Church, our charter organization. The plaque will display the names of all 100 Eagle Scouts from Troop 352.
It will coincide very closely with the celebration of the Centennial of Scouting in 2010.
